Balsamic-Ginger Grilled Portobello Mushrooms Recipe  : These Portobello Mushroom Steaks are excellent when grilled both inside and outside. From start to finish, this simple dish takes less than 30 minutes. Simply marinade, cook, and savor!

Because mushrooms are so full of umami flavor and have a good meaty texture, I adore them. While they can’t perfectly replace meat, they work well as an alternative in many dishes, such as vegan meatballs and vegan Bolognese sauce. I used to adore making grilled portobello mushroom steaks and burgers, even before I went vegan. They are satisfying despite being light!

Therefore, you might want to give these mushroom steaks a try if you’re seeking for more Vegan Dinner Recipes to add to your repertoire. Nor do you require an outside barbecue to perfectly sear them. You may also use a conventional skillet, although a grill pan works best. They will be smokey and tasty even if the skillet doesn’t produce grill marks!

Balsamic-Ginger Grilled Portobello Mushrooms Recipe

Ingredients

MARINADE

  • 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons gluten-free tamari (sub soy sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons grapeseed oil or preferred oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegan worcestershire sauce (sub vegan steak sauce)
  • 1-2 teaspoons liquid smoke (sub with 1 teaspoon smoked paprika)
  • 1 large garlic clove , minced or crushed
  • ½ teaspoon granulated onion
  • salt and fresh cracked pepper , to taste

Instructions

Combine all the marinade ingredients in a large shallow baking dish. If desired, taste and adjust the seasoning (remember that the flavors will be accentuated).

After adding the mushrooms to the casserole, generously coat each side with marinade. You can spoon it on as well. Allow it to marinate for 10 to 20 minutes, turning and brushing it one more halfway through.

Grill pans, skillets, or grills should be heated to medium-high heat. Once cooked through, coat with oil and add the mushrooms, which should sizzle as they come into contact with the pan.

Once in the pan, use a spatula or tongs to gently push down on them; do not disturb them. Let them sear for at least 4–5 minutes. Turn around and roast the other side, adding more oil if needed (you can also brush on more marinade). Grill until browned and tender about 4-5 minutes. Enjoy!

Notes

TIPS:
Clean each mushroom with a gentle brush or a paper towel that is slightly damp but not dry. They can get soggy because, like sponges, they will absorb a lot of water.
Before adding the mushrooms, it’s critical to fully heat the pan or grill because else, they won’t sear evenly.
If you pack the pan too full, the steam from the mushrooms will produce a lot of moisture.
SUGGESTIONS FOR SERVING: pair with potato salad, grilled vegetables, macaroni salad, fries, or roasted potatoes. It can also be served on a burger bun with grilled red onion, vegan pesto, and roasted peppers.
