When a fan asked Roberts on his podcast “The Snake Pit” if he had ever been offered a job as an agent or producer, Roberts disclosed that he had played the agent role for two future WWE Hall of Famers at a crucial juncture.

“I was offered a spot as an agent and I did it for a while with Vince,” Roberts stated. “I was writing television for him, partly responsible for the Steve Austin era, and certainly helped a lot of other people along the way, including Shawn Michaels.” Roberts gave the following explanation when asked what exactly went into his job as an agent: he helped the guys find matches and develop their characters.

Early in 1997, Roberts became an agent because WWE wanted him to begin stepping down from his in-ring career. Throughout 1996, he performed full-time, most notably during his match versus Austin in the King of the Ring finals, which set up the “Austin 3:16” promo right afterwards. Since then, he has joined AEW as a coach and special advisor in addition to continuing to appear on TV as Lance Archer’s manager.
