Beef Lo Mein

The deep umami flavours of Beef Lo Mein will make it your favourite 30-minute meal! Tender stir-fried beef with crisp veggies in an addictive sauce and rich Chinese-style egg noodles!  

– 1 pound flank steak – 1 teaspoon cornstarch – 1 tablespoon soy sauce – 1 teaspoon peanut oil – ¼ teaspoon baking soda – 1 tablespoon brown sugar  – 2 tablespoons soy sauce – 2 teaspoons dark soy sauce – 4 tablespoons oyster sauce – ½ teaspoon white pepper – 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine – 1 tablespoon sesame oil – 1 pound lo mein noodle – 2 tablespoons peanut oil – 1 cup mushroom – 2 cup Napa cabbage – 1 medium carrot – 1 medium red bell pepper



Prepare the noodles in accordance with the guide provided on the package. Following that, drain and set aside.

Mix all of the ingredients for the sauce together in a small bowl using a whisk. Put that to the side.

Combine the soy sauce, cornflour, peanut oil, and baking soda in a medium-sized bowl. After that, add the beef slices and let them marinate for ten minutes.

In a large wok over medium-high heat, heat 1 tablespoon of the peanut oil until hot.

Next, add the beef and cook, stirring, for 3 to 4 minutes, or until the beef is nicely browned. The beef should now be moved to a plate and left there.

Add the mushrooms, cabbage, carrots, and red bell pepper to the wok with the remaining tablespoon of peanut oil and stir-fry for 2 minutes.

Sear the beef and add the cooked noodles, snow peas, and bean sprouts to the wok.

Cornflour and baking soda in the beef marinade tenderise the meat and make it cook perfectly with crisp vegetables.

Pour lo mein sauce evenly over everything and toss to combine while cooking for one last minute.

Sprinkle sliced green onions on homemade beef lo mein and serve with homemade egg rolls and your favourite Sriracha!
