Easy Salisbury Steak Recipe

This easy gluten-free Salisbury steak recipe is for everyone. A tasty main dish is tender hamburger patties covered in rich mushroom gravy. With noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes!

INGREDIENT

For the Steak – 1 pound ground beef – ½ cup yellow onion finely chopped – 1/2 cup breadcrumbs * – 1 large egg beaten – 1 Tbsp ketchup – 2 teaspoon Dijon mustard – 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce – 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano – 1/2 teaspoon sea salt to taste – ¼ tsp black pepper to taste – 1 Tbsp avocado oil for cooking For The Gravy – 1 Tbsp avocado oil – 2 tablespoons unsalted butter or more avocado oil – 1 cup yellow onion finely chopped – 2 cloves garlic minced – 8 ounces cremini mushrooms sliced – 2 Tbsp gluten-free all-purpose flour or regular all-purpose flour flour** – 1 1/2 cups beef stock – 2 tsp dijon mustard – 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce – Salt and black pepper to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

Make Hamburger Steak: Put all the steak ingredients in a large bowl and mix with your hands until well combined. Making 5 beef patties from the steak mixture.

Step 1

Add 1–2 tablespoons of avocado oil (or cooking oil) to a large skillet over high heat. Heat the skillet for a few minutes until sizzling.

Step 2

Carefully place the beef patties on the hot skillet and cook for 1 minute until golden brown. 

Step 3

Flip the meat patties carefully and cook for another minute. Set aside the seared hamburger patties on a plate without cooking them yet.

Step 4

Make Gravy: To make gravy, return the skillet to medium heat and add avocado oil and butter. Add the chopped yellow onion and cook for 3 minutes to soften. 

Step 5

Add the mushrooms and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms sweat and brown, about 5 minutes.

Step 6

Mix in flour. Put beef broth, dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper. Bring gravy to a boil but control.

Step 7

In a single layer, return the browned beef patties to the skillet with gravy for 3–4 minutes. Carefully flip the patties and cook for 2–3 minutes until gravy thickens. Enjoy Salisbury steaks with favorite sides.
