Orange Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding Recipe

It is made with challah, chocolate chips, and orange juice, and it is cooked in a rich custard. Great for a big group.

– 10 oz (300 g) challah bread, or brioche – 2 tablespoons (30 g) unsalted butter, melted – 1/2 cup (80 g) chocolate chip – 2/3 cup (160 ml) whole milk – 2/3 cup (160 ml) whipping cream – 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar – 1/2 teaspoon sea salt – 3 large eggs, whisked – 2 tablespoons orange zest

INGREDIENTS

Cut the bread into little pieces. Put them in a nonstick pan over low heat and toast the bread until it's brown and dry.

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1

If the bread is already old, skip this step. Put the bread in a baking dish and drizzle it with butter. Add chocolate chips on top.

STEP 2

Mix the milk, cream, sugar, salt, and eggs in a medium-sized bowl with a whisk. Then add the orange peel and juice and mix well.

STEP 3

Spread the mix over the bread and let it sit for 30 minutes (or overnight in the fridge). Any piece of bread that is sticking out of the liquid should be pushed down with a spoon.

STEP 4

Set a rack in the middle of the oven and heat it to 350°F (175°C). That's how long you need to bake bread pudding until it's puffy, light brown, and the cream has set.

STEP 5

If you want to make bread pudding, check on it every 15 minutes. Remove some aluminum foil from the top of the bread if you think it's getting too dark too quickly. Keep baking.

STEP 6

After taking the bread pudding out of the oven, sprinkle it with powdered sugar, cut it up, and serve. Anyone who wants it can have whipped cream on the side.
