Thai Basil Chicken With Chili Garlic Sauce Recipe

Best 30-minute Thai basil chicken dish with fresh, fragrant ingredients. It tastes great and is healthier than takeout.

Thai Basil Sauce – ▢2 tablespoons fish sauce – ▢2 tablespoons mirin, or sake – ▢2 tablespoons tamari or soy sauce – ▢1 tablespoon sugar or honey – ▢2 tablespoons chili garlic sauce – ▢1 tablespoon cornstarch – ▢2 tablespoons chicken broth, or water Chicken – ▢1½ pounds boneless skinless chicken, thigh or breast meat – ▢2 tablespoons toasted peanut oil, or other high-heat vegetable oil – ▢1 red bell pepper, sliced into 1/4-inch strip – ▢1 small red onion, thinly sliced – ▢2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced or grated – ▢1 fresh red chili pepper, thinly sliced, or 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper – ▢2 cups fresh Thai basil or sweet basil leave Serving suggestion – ▢Crushed roasted peanut – ▢Fresh sliced cucumber – ▢Chopped green onion – ▢Cooked jasmine rice or rice noodle

INGREDIENTS

For sauce Mix fish sauce, mirin, tamari, sugar, chili garlic sauce, cornstarch, and water until sugar dissolves. 

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1

For chicken Heat a 12-inch cast iron skillet or wok on medium-high until extremely hot. 

STEP 2

Cook the chicken and oil in the pan for 10 minutes, tossing periodically, until charred and cooked through.

STEP 3

Stir in the garlic and chili pepper after cooking and stirring the bell pepper and onion for 1 minute.

STEP 4

Boil the sauce mixture after stirring. Cook for another minute, then add basil and remove from heat. Serve over rice or noodles to soak up the sauce.
