How To Fertilize Flowers With Compost Tea – Grow More Blooms – Naturally!

White Scribbled Underline

One of the most essential ways we fertilize our plants and soil sustainably is by feeding our flowers with home-brewed compost tea. Compost tea is easy to make with the appropriate materials and measurements. Flourish uses nothing special, yet it works well!

Compost tea adds microorganisms and nutrients to soil and plants by steeping compost. The nutrients and helpful microorganisms in compost permeate into water, creating liquid fertilizer for plants.

Compost tea can be made by steeping or bubbling. A bubbler wakes up and aerates compost microorganisms, thus we brew compost tea that way.

While you can use compost, it must be made from “organic” resources (food scraps, grass clippings without pesticides or chemicals, etc.) and aged appropriately. Since our compost source is poor, we use local worm castings.

Combine all the contents in the mesh bag and place in the 5 gallon bucket of non-chlorinated water (which kills bacteria). Place bubbler stones in bucket and turn on. Leave tea to steep for 12–24 hours.

Pour compost tea from the 5-gallon bucket into a backpack sprayer or watering can through the spout and fine mesh strainer. The sieve prevents tea particles from clogging the backpack sprayer.

We foliar spray compost tea into plant leaves and at the soil base. Two 4' x 95' plant beds can be covered by a 5-gallon compost tea sprayer.  I wish we could feed our entire farm worm compost tea, but we emphasize crops that grow abundantly over several weeks and generate more cash.

If the soil has dried up, compost tea can replenish aerobic soil bacteria. It is not a fertilizer, but healthy soil bacteria can feed plants. Best approach to fertilize soil, nourish bacteria, and boost garden is with pounds of organic fertilizer.
